Sunblock Survey

For anyone that has seen Maia in person, you can attest to the fact that she seems to have inherited my fair skin. In fact, she's almost translucent. That being said, I am counting down the days until she turns the magical age of six months so she can begin wearing sunblock.

Despite my excitement growing as this day approaches, I haven't done much research on the topic. What sunblocks do you guys use? Any recommendations or ones to avoid?

There is a non-chemical sunblock for babies under 6 months called California Baby (www.californiababy.com). When Nieko was 4 months we went to Mexico and I asked his doctor about this and she recommended to use any sunscreen to really avoid getting a sunburn. The California Baby recommendation came from my sister. I bought and use both sunscreens. I put the regular kind on his legs and the California Baby on his face and arms in case he gets some in his mouth (I may be making it too complicated). The California Baby works fine and although I've read some complaints about smell I didn't experience that.

Burt's Bee's recently came out with a sunblock. It's not specifically made for babies, but it is all natural.

Also, a friend recommended Blue Lizard (available at Drugstore.com) which is what we use and like. It's cool, too, because the bottle turns from white to pink when exposed to the sun. Awesome!

Aveeno has a new baby sunblock (SPF 55) that we use. So far, no sunburn!

We use Banana Boat Baby SPF 50+ sunscreen. It comes in a pink bottle and is "no tears". This has been really great for Nicholas. No sunburns to date (or even much of a tan), and his eyes don't get irritated like they did with other baby sunscreens.

So, we used the Aveeno - my mom still has access to the J&J company store, so we got it dirt cheap! YAY! Seemed to work great! I'm so excited to be worry-free in the sun!
